I just applied the same thinking as I do when programming in other languages.
Me too. But although being an avid bash/cmd programmer (apart from "real" languages like C++, C# and the like), AppleScript is not exactly to my taste. To be honest, all that "human-readability" makes it pretty hard to read, I'd say. I've tinkered around with XCode and Objective-C, but thats not usable with Salling Clicker. So back to AppleScript...
..to read which Hotkeys are mapped to which functions and also a good way of browsing files.
Hm. not sure I understood you here. Keycodes could be found here, for ex: http://hohabadu.de/?APPLESCRIPT/UIScripting but I have no idea about browsing; some other posts in this forum seem to have some idea, though. And of course, there are the sample Scripts with Clicker, that do something along these lines...
Maybe the ASReference helps: http://developer.apple.com/DOCUMENTATION/AppleScript/Conceptual/AppleScriptLangGuide/introduction/ASLR_intro.html
I think I will make your code part of the new VLC-player I'm working on, if that is ok by you?
Very nice of you to ask, but you'd have to ask yourself. As I remember it, *you* helped *me*.
The only thing I'd distaste is if you made it a commercial product. But then, how would I know; the Scripts cannot easily be disassembled... ;-)

I'm sure there are lots of folks outside just waiting for something like what you are planning. Me included.

It definitely feels strange to use AS after years of programming in other languages, though I can certainly understand why it can be easier for people with little or no previous experience with programming.

The sending of keys is not an issue, that is pretty straight forward, what I want to do is find out which keys are mapped to what in VLC since that is user-definable. While writing this I think I figured it out, I could just read the config-file for VLC... I looked at it now and it is quite easy to parse (it looks like any other standard INI-file content), all I have to do now is to find some documentation about how to open and parse files in AS...

Don't worry, I won't make it into a commercial product, I'm against the very notion... If possible (since I use example-code distributed with Clicker) I will publish it with GPLv2 or possibly some BSD-style license :)
