Paid and latest version.

Salling Media Sync does not recognize that the Palm Pre is connected as a USB drive. It shows up in Windows Explorer.

I was able to sync twice before. Yesterday Windows was updated and the computer restarted.

Have tried uninstalling the Palm Pre Drive device from Device Manager. No help.

You should know that there is also a Novacom driver for the Palm Pre which comes as part of the webOS SDK and is used to connect to the Pre over USB. But it is not active in USB mode.

Interesting. I should stress that the latest version of Salling Media Sync accepts any Pre device, as long as its USB vendor ID is "Palm" (0x0830).

Does your Pre not use this USB vendor ID?

Best.

That's the name it showed under.

FYI, in case you're not aware, Palm and Apple are playing a game with the USB vendor ID. Apple is trying to block the Pre from imposing as an iPod by checking the vendor ID, which has caused Palm to change the vendor ID.

Why not just add Salling to the menu of applications that can perform an action with a mounted USB drive? Otherwise you'll have to get involved in the USB vendor ID mess.

This still does not explain why I was able to sync the day before.

Well. I'm quite aware of the Vendor ID dance…

However, this is irrelevant here, as the dance concerns only the "media sync" USB mode.

I would like you to:

1. Confirm the version of Salling Media Sync you've got there (use the About panel).

2. Use Windows' Device Manager to confirm that your Pre didn't all of a sudden got a wonky Vendor ID. Let me know if you need instructions on this.

Best.

PS. We need to distinguish USB Vendor IDs, as different devices need different treatment.

Could you please try this:

1. Quit Salling Media Sync
2. Create an empty folder on your Desktop named "MediaSyncLogs"
3. Launch Salling Media Sync
4. Plug in and mount the phone is USB Mode if you haven't already done so.

Then email me (use the button below) the resulting log file (in the folder you created).

Thanks!

Well, after a botched Windows update last night, followed by a hard disk clean up, now Salling recognizes the device and syncs.

I've had bad experience over the years with Windows XP and Palm USB sync, I hope this will turn out better.
